Impact of latest security findings for Intel’s CPUs on VITEC products:
Recently a team of researchers published a major finding uncovering a security threat involving almost all modern CPUs and microprocessors (aka chips). The security threats codenamed “Meltdown” and “Spectre” involve attackers exploiting common features of the microprocessors that power servers, personal computers, tablets, smartphones, and other smart devices.
VITEC takes protection of data used by its products and overall security of its products very seriously. VITEC has completed an initial urgent analysis of the implications of Meltdown and Spectre on its wide range of hardware and software products and has concluded several of its products contain this vulnerability. However, since VITEC’s products are carefully designed to meet the highest standards of information assurance and security guidelines, our hardware does not run foreign and/or 3rd party software and our software-based and server-based products are locked down and are typically operated in closed network environments hence the likelihood an exploit that may take advantage of these new findings exists in our products is extremely low.
VITEC is working closely with its microprocessors, rack-mount servers and operating systems suppliers to receive the needed patches. As soon as these updates are available - VITEC will verify the packages and issue detailed instructions on how to obtain and apply the fixes via our online Support Portal. These updates will be available at no charge to all Platinum, Gold and Silver customers.
The fix / mitigation for these latest security vulnerabilities will be provided in the form of an operating system security update originating from the OS provider (for VITEC’s software and server-based products) and as a new firmware package (for VITEC’s hardware products where applicable).
